From Uncertainty to Purpose: Matai's Journey of Faith and Hope
Before arriving at the Leadership Academy of South Sudan (LASS), Matai's future felt uncertain. Like many young people whose educational opportunities have been disrupted by conflict and hardship, she wondered whether she would ever return to school. The dreams she once held tightly seemed increasingly out of reach.
"There was a time when I had almost given up hope," Matai shares. "I did not know if I would get another opportunity to study or what my future would look like."
Everything began to change when she joined LASS. Matai was immersed in the school's Leadership and Discipleship program, where she encountered lessons that challenged her to grow spiritually and discover a deeper sense of purpose. Through teachings on prayer, fellowship, forgiveness, witnessing, and the Kingdom of God, her faith became more than something she knew about—it became the foundation of her daily life.
One lesson, in particular, transformed her perspective: a relationship with God cannot flourish without prayer and time in His Word. As Matai began to develop those habits, she experienced a new level of confidence, peace, and spiritual growth.
The program also helped her understand the importance of community. Through fellowship and discipleship groups, she learned that following Christ is not a journey meant to be walked alone. Surrounded by mentors, teachers, and friends who believed in her, she found encouragement, belonging, and the courage to dream again.
Lessons on forgiveness, reconciliation, and Christian unity further shaped her character, teaching her to build bridges across differences and see others through the lens of God's love. At the same time, studying Christ's call to be His witness inspired her to view her faith as something to be lived out through service, leadership, and positive influence.
Today, Matai is a young woman marked by renewed hope, stronger faith, and a clear sense of purpose. She believes discipleship is not simply about learning biblical truths but living them out every day through obedience, service, and a commitment to following Christ.
The opportunity to attend LASS gave Matai far more than an education. It gave her hope for the future, a strong foundation of faith, and the confidence to pursue God's calling on her life. Her desire is to continue growing as a disciple and become a Disciple Nation Builder who helps others discover the same hope and purpose she found.
Reflecting on her journey, Matai says, "LASS helped me see that my story is not limited by where I started. With God, I can dream again, grow again, and help others do the same."
